Two new deacons for the Diocese of Grand Rapids

WHO:  Diocesan seminarians Dominic T. Couturier and Daniel R. Orris Jr. will be ordained to the Order of Deacons. Following ordination, they will continue their studies and are expected to be ordained to the priesthood in June 2020.

 Note:  Father Ron Hutchinson, director of the Office of Priestly Vocations, Father Stephen Durkee, associate director of the Office of Priestly Vocations, along with candidate Dominic Couturier will be available at 9:40 a.m. on Saturday for interviews.

 The Mass will be livestreamed on our website (grdiocese.org) and Facebook page (Diocese of Grand Rapids). The public is welcome to attend.

In addition, two men, Deacon Andrew M. Ayers and Deacon Robert C. Mulderink of Saint Luke University Parish, will be ordained to the priesthood for the Diocese of Grand Rapids on Saturday, June 1 at 10 a.m. at the cathedral.

Dominic T. Couturier, 40,

is the son of Thomas and Roberta Couturier. He has five siblings: Jonathan, Nathan, Jacob, Monique and Mark. He is a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish in Grand Rapids and grew up in Greenville where he attended St. Charles Borromeo Parish. He attended Davenport University and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in 2004. He worked at Couturier Iron Craft Inc. before entering the seminary in 2014.

Dominic will begin his final year of seminary studies and formation at the University of Saint Mary of the Lake/Mundelein Seminary in Mundelein, Illinois this fall, and will receive his Master of Divinity in spring 2020. He completed his pastoral internship at St. Francis de Sales Parish in Norton Shores and St. Michael the Archangel Parish in Muskegon, under the mentorship of Father Charles Hall.

 

Daniel R. Orris Jr., 28,

is the son of Daniel and Bernadine Orris. He has three siblings: Patti (Keith) Patterson, Nancy, and Jill (Mark) Dodds. He is a member of St. Dominic Parish in Wyoming, now merged with the Shrine of St. Francis Xavier and Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish in Grand Rapids. He attended Kelloggsville High School and Aquinas College, where he received a bachelor’s degree in 2014.

Daniel will enter his final year of seminary at the University of Saint Mary of the Lake/Mundelein Seminary in Mundelein, Illinois this fall, and will receive his Master of Divinity in spring 2020. He completed his pastoral internship at Our Lady of Consolation Parish in Rockford, under the mentorship of Father Anthony Russo.
