Adult Faith Formation

And this is my prayer:
that your love may increase ever more
and more in knowledge and every kind of perception,
to discern what is of value,
so that you may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ,
filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through
Jesus Christ for the glory and praise of God.Philippians 1:9-11

As baptized disciples of Jesus Christ, our entire life is an unfolding of the mystery of the Grace of our communion with God. This process does not happen automatically, but as a dialogue of faith between God and ourselves. This process is called Faith Formation. It brings our hearts and our minds into deeper communion with Christ, and it is a life-long endeavor.

Well-formed Catholic adults are the key to well-formed Catholic children, youth, and families.  Adult Faith Formation is also of vital importance for our college parishioners.  You are learning to examine the world in a deeper, more mature way through your university classes.  St. Luke’s seeks to be a resource to you to deepen and mature your relationship with the Lord and your understanding of the Catholic faith.  All confirmed adults are called to deepen our love and knowledge of our faith and to be able to share the Good News with confidence.

Throughout the year, St. Luke’s offers opportunities for adults to grow in wisdom, knowledge, and grace through Bible studies, Lectio Divina and other prayer opportunities, small group faith-sharing, and classes. Please see this page and the parish calendar for times, dates, and current offerings.

We’re also pleased to offer another venue for adult Faith Formation in our parish.  FORMED is an online service for accessing thousands of Catholic videos, audios and eBooks on demand. As a member, you will have access to entertaining movies, inspiring audio talks, informative bible studies, and much more. We provide this resource free of charge to help our members grow in their faith.

CATHOLIC INQUIRY FOR
NON-CATHOLICS

ARE YOU SOMEONE WHO OR DO YOU KNOW SOMEONE WHO…

  • Has wondered “What is my purpose?” or “Why am I here?”
  • Has been seeking deeper meaning in life?
  • Has wondered if “being spiritual” and “being religious” are really compatible?
  • Has wondered if goodness and unconditional love are really possible?
  • Has expressed an interest in becoming Catholic or learning more about
    Catholicism?
  • Is married to a Catholic or raising Catholic children?
  • Is related to or in a relationship with a Catholic, and wants to understand them
    more?

St. Luke University Parish will be offering an opportunity this fall to come together in a
small group for Inquiry into Catholicism. All you need to bring is your questions or a
friend with questions of their own. Sessions focus on the teachings and experience of
Catholicism. This group will meet at the church weekly on Sunday evenings, 7:30 p.m.,
beginning September 8. Please call 616-895-2247 or e-mail John Graveline, for more information.

WE LOVE OUR COLLABORATORS!
COME JOIN THE FAITH FORMATION TEAM!

St. Luke’s is blessed by a great team of ministry collaborators who help pass our
Catholic faith to the next generations! Our faith formation offerings could not be fruitful
without so many dedicated folks. Thank you so much!

There is still time to be part of the faith formation team during this new school year. We
would welcome help as aides or substitutes for our catechists at all age levels on
Sunday, Monday, and Wednesday; and we would love more helpers willing to serve
once a month in our Nursery during 10:30 Mass.

A special invitation is extended to our GVSU student parishioners to be part of this vital ministry. There has always been a tradition at St. Luke’s of our student
parishioners serving side-by-side in our faith formation ministries. Please call 616-895-2247 or e- mail John Graveline, for more information.

TWO ADULT FAITH FORMATION OPPORTUNITIES THIS YEAR
CATHOLICISM (MONDAYS) &
THE BIBLE TIMELINE (WEDNESDAYS)

This school year, we are offering two in-depth adult education opportunities.

On Monday evenings, 6:30 – 7:45, we will explore Catholicism using the film series of Bishop Robert Barron. The film series shows how Catholicism is expressed in more than 50 locations throughout 15 countries, while exploring the meaning behind our Catholic beliefs. Each week, a portion of a video will be shown with time for group discussion.

On Wednesday evenings, 6:30 – 7:45, we will study the “big picture” of the Bible, helping us to understand the keys to understanding the amazing story woven throughout the Bible. Each participant will create their own Bible timeline to help illustrate how God slowly revealed himself to his people.

These are in-depth studies (but accessible to beginners) that will meet September 9 through May 6. These classes are designed for parents of faith formation participants, our GVSU student parishioners, and anyone in the parish who has received the Sacrament of Confirmation. A suggested donation of $50 for the year will help pay for the class books and materials, but no one will be turned away. Please call 616-895-2247 or e-mail John Graveline, for more information.

Attention Young Adults:
A group for young adults ages 22-35.  Our purpose is to get together to pray, study Scripture and our Catholic faith, and grow together in our relationship with Jesus Christ. Meetings are the 1st & 3rd Tuesdays of the month at 7:00 pm.  For more information, contact Paschal at njokui@mail.gvsu.edu
